In the United Kingdom, the Wetherpoons pub chain will withdraw French champagnes and German beers. Both will be replaced by British sparkling wines and white beers produced in the UK and other countries outside the EU, France Info reported.

The decision was made by the owner of the Wetherspoons chain, businessman and fervent supporter of the Brexit Tim Martin, but he notes that it is a much more commercial than political choice. However, Martins blames the European Union for having a protectionist customs union system

Among other beverages that Martin will withdraw from its stores are Prosecco, partly as a result of the termination of the contract with its supplier in March 2019, and in the same way for French cognac. However, it applied a derogation for Swedish cider, the producer of which undertook to produce it in the United Kingdom post-Brexit.
