How many hours of work do you have to do to buy a bottle of champagne?
An economist from the American Association of Wine Economists had fun doing this little calculation.
According to his figures, a Canadian will have to spend 41% of his daily salary to buy a bottle of Moët et Chandon champagne. That is four times more than a worker from Luxembourg and Switzerland who can buy it with the income of a tenth of their working day and twice as much as a worker from the United States.
So it will cost :
– 41% of his average daily salary to a Canadian to buy a bottle of champagne,
– 11% for a Luxembourger,
– 12% for a Swiss,
– 17% for a New Yorker,
– 22% for a Californian,
– 23% for an Australian,
– 27% for a Frenchman,
– 29% for a Brit,
– 30% for a Belgian,
– 32% for a Swede.
The lucky ones are therefore the Luxembourgers !
Don’t drink and drive. Enjoy responsibly.
