France. The spirits industry ready to invest in alcohol prevention
The French government asked alcohol producers to participate in the public health plan to invest in the prevention of alcoholism. Alcohol dependence is a problem in France, affecting 2.9% of the population.
The investment proposed by producers and traders in the beer, wine and spirits industry proposed to contribute 5 million euros to a four-year programme.
The aim of the measures is to combat excessive and occasional alcohol consumption, which mainly affects young people, and fetal alcoholisation of pregnant women, which affects 700 to 1,000 births per year. In addition, the extension of the logo banning alcohol to pregnant women is another proposed measure. Furthermore, it is proposed to improve enforcement of the ban on the sale of alcohol to minors by training contact professionals, in particular in supermarkets.
Don’t drink and drive. Enjoy responsibly.
